Softball Player Assessments (tryouts) are an important part of the Little League experience. Assessments allow coaches to see where each player is in terms of experience and abilities so that teams can be properly balanced. There are NO cuts. The goal of RNLL is ensure every player has a great experience and that each team is competitive. All players wishing to play in AAA or Majors are asked to attend one assessment session.
Assessment Drils
- Pop flies: Each player will receive pop flies and then throw those pop flies to the infield
- Fielding
- Players will be rotated through 2nd and 1st base to receive balls from those taking pop flies
- Players will take turns receiving ground balls
- Batting: Players will receive pitches from a coach or member of the board. After their 5th swing they will run the bases
- Pitching: As a group, instruction will be given to each player on how to pitch a softball. They will all be given an opportunity to pitch regardless of experience. Many girls will have never pitched before. Thats ok!
